Most budget mobile phones you find nowadays is built with the Android operating system. That is because of its open-source nature and that mobile phone companies can tweak it a little bit to suit their company needs (and to kind of suit the customers’ needs as well).
Because of the Android mobile phone’s market share when it comes to budget-friendly phones, Apple wants to release a budget-friendly option as well. I don’t know if that is really the case since their “budget” offering costs $350.
Now, both of these operating system giants, the Android and iOS operating systems, have gotten a good share of the market, but there is one mobile phone operating system that was not present and that is the Windows 10 mobile.
Today, we are going to talk about a budget-friendly phone that has the Windows 10 operating system in it. The phone I am referring to is the Microsoft Lumia 650.
The design of the Microsoft Lumia 650 is much better compared to other budget-friendly phones. It is made of polycarbonate plastic but it does have an aluminum outer frame which kind of gives it a premium look.
The back cover can also be removed unlike other phones out there. When removing the back cover, you will be presented with a removable battery and the microSD card storage. You can go up as high as a 200GB microSD, although, you have to make sure that it is a fast microSD card at that (buy the Class 10 ones).
As for the display, the Microsoft Lumia 650 comes with a 5-inch OLED display with a resolution of 720p translating into 297ppi and it is also protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The OLED display is actually not new and it has been used in some phones in the past. Although I still love IPS display panels among any other display panels out there, the OLED screen is still pretty good. Expect to have good color and contrast ratios with this phone.
Since the Microsoft Lumia 650 is a budget-friendly phone, the performance of this phone is not really something to be giddy about. It is built with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 quad-core processor with clock speeds of 1.3GHz, and it also comes with the Adreno 304 GPU and only 1GB of RAM.
Obviously, you cannot multitask with this phone, but considering that this is only an inexpensive phone that does all of the basic stuff, you cannot really ask for more.
The camera is quite good, though. For the price, you get an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. Although the camera is decent, the application does lag a little bit, but it is negligible most of the times.
The Microsoft Lumia 650 comes with 4G LTE support which is a huge plus for many people. If you do use this phone’s 4G LTE capability, I highly recommend buying a mobile phone signal booster to ensure that you get a consistent signal in your home or vehicle.
The Microsoft Lumia 650 is a decent phone. Yes, it is inexpensive but the features aren’t really something to brag about. Still, it is a good phone for daily use.
